Choosing A Storm Repair Contractor
Last week Eden Prairie got to celebrate in the festivities of National Night Out. Sadly, these festivities were cut short when a large storm passed through the area and golf ball size hail caused large amount of damage to homes and cars in the area.
This is when roofing and siding contractor will swoop in and start their door to door knocking. While many of the contractors are great contractors run by great businessmen, many are not and if you want your home repair project to go smoothly, you need to know a few things about hiring a contractor.
Tips For Hiring A Roofing & Siding Contractor
Solicitors Are Require To Apply For And Carry A Permit
Door to door solicitors are required to go to the Eden Prairie Police Department and apply for a permit from the city. They are then required to carry this permit at all times. Many of the door to door salesmen are good people doing their job, so asking them to see their permit should never be an issue. If they do not have a permit or cannot show it to you, politely ask them to leave and call the city police.
Ask For A List Of The Past 5 Clients For Reference
Asking for references is always a good idea, but don’t leave it there. Ask your potential contractor for their last 5 clients. This will give you a more accurate representation of their work rather than a few hand picked clients that they want to give you.
Never Hand Over Money Without Due Diligence
By due diligence I am referring to having a signed contract, that you have read thoroughly, researched the company online and called all references. Sadly there are plenty of scammers out there waiting to take an unsuspecting persons money.
Contact Your Insurance Company Yourself
Your insurance company may have pre-approved contractors in your area. These contractors have relationships with the insurance company and it is in their best interest to keep the insurance company and their clients as happy as possible.
