Eden Prairie Celebrates Diversity with the ‘World at your Door’
Come learn about the various ethnic foods, films, and displays put on by the city of Eden Prairie and Eden Prairie Schools Community Education. Expand your cultural knowledge at the ‘World at your Door‘ event, starting in September and running through December!
Being a diverse area, Eden Prairie keeps expanding into a more cultural city. Celebrating and embracing new ethnicity is important. According to Patricia Fenrick, community services coordinator for the city, “Eden Prairie is a growing diverse community and we’re really wanting to celebrate that and help create spaces for people to interact with the diversity that’s here, and to learn from each other and with each other about the different residents that are making up our community.”
In addition, other events such as ‘Who is your Neighbor?’ help people learn about each other and welcome new comers to the area. The idea came from the Human Rights and Diversity Commission. December offers four different events: ‘Community Cinema; Engaging Communities through Film’, ‘International Day‘, ‘Tasty World Lunch’, and ‘Winter Market’.
The community cinema portion will offer three sessions from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 26, Oct. 24 and Nov. 21 at the Eden Prairie Library. International Day is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the International School of Minnesota, 6385 Beach Road, Eden Prairie.
Tasty World Lunch will feature two sessions from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at Sawatdee Restaurant, 13300 Technology Drive, Eden Prairie, and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at India Palace, 936 Prairie Center Drive, Eden Prairie.
The Winter Market is another event hosted by ISM from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the school. Registration is free for all of the events. People will have to cover the cost of their own lunch for the Tasty World Sessions, which are about $11. For more information or to register online, visit www.epcommunityed.org.
