Eden Prairie Fire Department Receives Life Safety Achievement Award
For the second consecutive year the Eden Prairie Fire Department has been honored with the Life Safety Achievement Award.
According to a City of Eden Prairie press release, the department received the award for its fire prevention accomplishments in 2013. The city recorded zero civilian fire fatalities again last year.
Since 1994, the Life Safety Achievement Award has recognized local fire prevention efforts that have contributed to reducing the number of lives lost in residential fires, according to the release. The National Association of State Fire Marshals Fire Research and Education Foundation, in partnership with Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, presented the award to 142 fire departments across the United States this year.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to be included in such great company,” Eden Prairie Fire Chief George Esbensen said in the release. “Our department is committed to educating our residents about fire prevention behaviors to minimize their chance of being put in harm’s way.”
In addition, those departments that received the award have effective fire prevention programs. In Eden Prairie, firefighters visit elementary schools, attend block parties and use other opportunities to educate the public about fire safety. The department also offers a hands-only CPR training and has established a community EMT program, the release said.
