Local Bicyclists Want More Trails Throughout Eden Prairie for Exercise and Recreation
Local Eden Prairie bicyclists and walkers crave more convenience between the trails around the community. Discussions are underway to provide alternate forms of transportation that would increase outdoor activity. Suggestions include a trail loop that passes by historic sites and places to eat; somewhat similar to the Minneapolis Greenway Trail.
The new biking trail effort is expected to connect all the area trails, as well as make it easy to commute to other cities. Eden Prairie already has some great outdoor paths to ride, but residents want more! After the installation of the Rice Marsh Lake Trail, a 3.4 mile multi-use loop between Eden Prairie and Chanhassen, locals have increased ridership around town.
Public participation is encouraged for this topic, especially for those interested in increasing the walking and biking throughout Eden Prairie. A planning group is going to work with both the city and Hennepin County to come up with a proposal soon. An online engagement is already available to capture input and suggestions. By the end of July, a draft for the new trail should be ready to go! If you want to take part in the online engagement, go to www.edenprairiepedbikeplan.org
